What makes AI fundamentally different?

Trending is never a good thing.

I would say AI is a trend because people have talked about it too much recently, but if something can’t last for more than at least 5 years, it’s just a trend.

Nobody can be sure if AI is the future because nobody can be sure about the future. Almost everything we see, we hear on the internet, is controlled by Internet providers, and big companies. They show us what we want to see. Hence almost all of us will believe bring this AI trend into the “AI Era”, AI is the future, blah blah. But what the truth is, nobody knows.

What I can see is something that AI is fundamentally different. Just differences, neither good nor bad.

The correctness

This is the most insane thing happening nowadays, but we accept it without a doubt.

In computer science, it’s obvious that we need the data should be correct. What’s the point of using a computer program instead of a human? For many reasons, one of those is correctness, a computer won’t make mistakes while a human does.

What if the website does not show the correct price when someone wants to buy a product? What if the YouTube “upload” button is labeled as “Log out”?

Do you see those questions are stupid? Me too. In any case, showing wrong information is fundamentally wrong.

But AI does! And now we accept wrong things like my above ridiculous stupid questions but without a doubt!

We all know AI showing many wrong information, but there is something more important than that. One primary purpose of AI is to produce similar results rather than the exact correct information.

What do we expect when talking with an AI agent? Do we expect an exact answer or similar and related information? Most of the time, we need the latter one.

This is truly interesting to me, I think about it while people out there care about the number of tokens, and how big is the context windows. This is just fundamentally different, we expect something new, something we have never seen before.

This is the most identical I can see between AI and blockchain, they are just different than the others. They made us expect something that wasn’t like anything else before.

Natural language

Where does the power of AI come from?

With my limited knowledge, mostly it comes from the code that can process the natural language. People called it with a fancy name: LLM model.

Let’s ask a simple question: why do we need a programming language?

My answer: because the computer is stupid and it can’t understand my language.

What makes AI different because it slowly clears this burden barrier. It’s easy to see that AI will replace many people, who don’t have an open mindset and creativity. What’s the point of going through a program developed by somebody when I can directly talk with an AI agent and achieve the same goal?

Agentic AI is not something new to me in terms of idea, the only new is just a name. People always like fancy words on their landing page, rather than just saying what it actually is, just a tool.

I love simple words. At least in the case of AI since it’s not as smart as people said. It can do many things from generating the code, and content (Ghibli hot trend recently from ChatGPT is awesome), and so on. But no matter how much the quantity is, it can’t change the quality.

Lazy mindset

This is a very dangerous thing of AI to me.

I’m not talking about losing the job, it’s fucking ease than the real problem AI brings to the human: AI can make people lazy and scary.

The dangerous thing is this question pops up in your head: “Why do I need to think about it when AI can do it for me?”

There are no other tools that can make humans have this question except AI, at least the only thing I know.
