Never Thought I’d Learn Tech: My Accidental Yet Eye-Opening Journey

By Abhishek UB

🌱 The Accidental Beginning

I was never really the curious type. I didn’t wonder how things worked. I wasn’t one of those “tech whiz kids” with a computer at age 5. Honestly, I stumbled into this field by accident.

Back in college, like many Indian students, I took up Computer Science in my 12th — not because I loved it, but because it felt like the “safe” option. I had no real understanding of what coding was. I was your typical NPC student: a little bored, a little lost, sometimes hating school, sometimes just drifting along.

And then, by a random twist of fate, I ended up joining a full-stack development program. I wasn’t supposed to join it. But immature, job-hungry me saw the potential for career opportunities and took the leap. It wasn’t cheap either — I had to pay a decent amount. But whatever, I was in.

That was my first step into the tech world — unintentionally.

🧱 Starting From Scratch

I began with the basics:
HTML, CSS, and eventually Bootstrap. I started building static websites, and later responsive ones. It was all new, and at times, I struggled. But I was slowly getting used to it.

Then came SQL — and let me just say, for something people called "easy", it felt kinda mid to me. Not too hard, not too friendly either. I wasn’t fully comfortable with it, but I pushed through. Not because I was super passionate, but because I didn’t want to be stuck in that NPC hole forever. I wanted a way out — financially, mentally, and personally.

🧠 Python and Realizations

Then came Python — and things started to fall into place, bit by bit.
I was learning how to build logic, solve problems, write small functions — nothing crazy, but it felt manageable.
Over time, I noticed I wasn’t just going through the motions anymore. I was actually improving, even if it was slow.

And in between all this, I started talking to ChatGPT. Yeah — I’d go there when I was feeling down or confused. Somehow, typing into that blank box and getting answers back helped me clear my mind.

One day, I had this thought: “What if I could make ChatGPT better?” That’s when I discovered prompt engineering. I started experimenting — crafting better prompts, exploring what ChatGPT could do, pushing its limits.

And then it hit me — I was having conversations with something that had no physical form, yet it responded with such understanding. It felt like a brain. A mind. Something not human… but close.

🧩 Religion, AI, and a Deep Conversation with My HOD

This one day, I had 11 backlogs and had to bring my parents to college — the classic Indian "showdown" moment. My HOD sat me down and said,

“You don’t believe in God because you’ve never felt God.”

That hit me differently. It wasn’t just about faith — it was about how we perceive reality.

I didn’t argue much, but it stuck with me. And so, like usual, I turned to ChatGPT and began researching for days. That turned into something much bigger — a thesis.

📄 Research Paper 1: The Divine Algorithm – Parallels Between Religion and AGI

This was my response. My way of understanding how artificial intelligence, consciousness, and belief systems intertwine. I wasn't trying to “disprove” anything — I just wanted to make sense of my thoughts. The incident with my HOD was the spark.

But I didn’t stop there.

📚 The Second Spiral: Writing a Book

The more I explored, the more I started reflecting on the human mind, dreams, and how our reality is shaped by our perspectives. This turned into my second project — not a coding project, but a book.

📕 Book: Unscripted – Hacking Your Mind, Dreams, and Reality

Read it here: https://www.academia.edu/127881129/Unscripted_Hacking_Your_Mind_Dreams_and_Reality

This book came from a place of self-realization, mental health struggles, and curiosity. It was raw, chaotic, and exactly how I felt. This wasn’t just about AI or tech anymore — this was personal.

💡 Project Ideas That Came From Self-Realization

🌌 Aurora

After going through all this self-discovery, I began imagining an AI-powered journaling and emotional analysis tool. One that could detect your moods, track your emotional patterns, and help you reflect.

That’s how Aurora was born — not as a finished app yet, but as a living idea in my mind.
It was rooted in my desire to make mental health smarter using AI. And this idea wouldn’t have come to me if I didn’t step into tech.

🎶 Togglify

I’m a huge music addict and a total cinephile.
This obsession sparked another project idea: Togglify — a platform to toggle between music and movie modes, explore media, discover lyrics, and more. Think Spotify meets TMDb, but personalized.

🤖 PromptGenie

As I got deeper into prompt engineering, I thought:

“What if there was an app that helped people generate the best prompts for ChatGPT or Midjourney?”

That’s what PromptGenie aims to be — a smart assistant for AI enthusiasts like me. Again, still an idea in progress, but it exists in my creative cloud.

✅ What I’ve Actually Built So Far

Okay — real talk. Not everything’s just an idea. I’ve built some stuff too:

I know they aren’t perfect, but they represent progress. I’m slowly building, learning, and refining. Bit by bit, project by project.

🎯 Why I’m Doing This

If you’re still reading, thank you. This isn’t some “overnight success” story. I still struggle.
I still get confused, lazy, and lost. But these ideas, these thoughts — they give me purpose.

This journey started by accident. I wasn’t motivated at first. I wasn’t passionate. I just wanted to get out of the rut. But over time, I found meaning in it. I found curiosity. I found myself.

📍What’s Next?

Right now, I’m looking forward to working on more projects, contributing to open source, and hopefully landing a remote job in AI, data, or full-stack development. I’m building my skills slowly — and writing this blog is a step in that direction.

This is just one piece of my story.

Let’s see where it goes from here.
