How-To Guide; GG23 Donations

If you are reading this, it means you have expressed interest in what we do at Gitcoin, and it’s time for you to start your public Goods journey. This is where I come in. In this very short (I'm not sure about this) article, I will walk you through the step-by-step process of donating to your favorite projects on the Gitcoin grant stack page.

💡
To properly understand my steps, you must have an active wallet address with the required token. In this case, I would use the Celo token in my Rainbow wallet and on my laptop, so the interface would differ from yours if you use your phone.

Step 1

Go to the Gitcoin Explorer and look through the various available rounds. I have selected the Web3 For Universities Round to donate to.

Step 2

Go through the available projects and decide which one to donate to. To select your choice project, add it to the cart by clicking the cart icon.

Once you click the icon, it should indicate that it has been added by showing a check mark like the one seen below.

Step 3

Navigate to the top right of your page and click the cart icon with the notification, as seen in the image below.

Step 4

Once on the cart page, you decide how many tokens to donate. If you are donating to just one project, you should input the amount in the section highlighted in red.

If you intend to donate to multiple projects and use varying amounts, input the specific quantity you desire in the space provided for the singular project. If all projects in your cart get an equal amount, please use the space highlighted in red and click APPLY TO ALL; it will distribute your choice amount to all projects in your cart.

Step 5

You have completed all the required steps at this stage, so you need to click the Submit button.

Step 6

The button takes you to a checkout pop-up page, where you can decide whether to donate to Gitcoin and proceed to checkout.

Step 7

You would get the following pop-up message that shows what stage the transaction is at, and automatically, your wallet extension would pop up for you to approve the checkout.

When the message pops up, please read it and ensure that it is the transaction you want to make. Then, sign the message, and you are good to go.

Important Things To Note

  1. For every donation to count, they must be a minimum of $1

  2. This round will use Cluster matching to prevent sybils that the regular Quadratic Funding can bypass.

  3. If you are wondering, “What on earth is cluster matching?” Honestly, I thought the same before I read about it in the Gitcoin publication

Basically if it's only one set of people from a certain region that are donating to you, cluster matching will also be at play.

So talk to people in the gitcoin and refi communities to donate to your round.

Doing matching for matching is fine, but if those are the only kind of donations you get, cluster matching would still flag it.

You could have so many contributors and only a percentage are eligible for matching during Sybil checks.

Summary

You have taken the first of many steps in your public Goods Journey, and we hope this helps you stay focused on Web3's impact. Remember to donate across projects and different rounds for your donation to be felt.

P.S. This did not take as long as I had thought.
