We've all got that drawer of old t-shirts stained with paint, faded from the sun, or simply outgrown. They might seem destined for the donation bin, but before you toss them, think about the creative possibilities!

One trending upcycling project that's both practical and stylish is transforming those forgotten tees into stylish face masks. Not only is it a great way to give new life to old clothes, but it's also a sustainable alternative to disposable masks.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Old t-shirts: Pick ones with cotton or a cotton blend for breathability.
  • Scissors: Use sharp scissors for clean cuts.
  • Elastic or fabric ties: For attaching the mask to your ears.
  • Needle and thread (optional): If you want to add a decorative touch.

Simple steps to create your own t-shirt face masks:

  1. Cut out a rectangular shape: The size will depend on your face, but about 8 inches wide and 6 inches tall is a good starting point.
  2. Fold the rectangle in half: Align the edges and press them together.
  3. Create pleats: Fold over the top edge about 1 inch and then fold it in half again to create a crease. Repeat this process for the entire length of the mask.
  4. Sew or tie on the elastic: Attach elastic or fabric ties to the sides of the mask, ensuring they fit comfortably around your ears.

Bonus tips:

  • Embellish your masks: Use leftover fabric scraps, buttons, or embroidery to add a personal touch.
  • Layer a filter: For extra protection, layer a piece of coffee filter or surgical mask fabric inside the t-shirt fabric.

This simple project is a fun way to get creative with your old clothes and create something useful and stylish!
