You Won't Believe What You Can Compost!

We all know recycling is important, but did you know there's a whole world of things beyond plastic bottles and cans that can be given a second life? Meet composting, the sustainable super-hero often overlooked in the waste-reduction game.
Composting is basically nature's recycling system, where organic matter is broken down by microorganisms into a nutrient-rich "black gold" - compost. And the range of things that can be composted is surprisingly expansive!
Forget the myth that only food scraps belong in the compost bin. Think outside the (kitchen) box:
- Paper: Shredded paper, cardboard boxes, office paper, even paper towels (without plastic lining) can find new life as compost. This helps divert paper waste from landfills where it can take centuries to decompose.
- Coffee Grounds & Filters: These caffeine-infused leftovers pack a nutritional punch for your compost pile.
- Eggshells: Crushed eggshells add valuable calcium to your compost, acting as a natural fertilizer boost.
- Hair & Fur: Pet hair, human strands - even clippings from grooming salons - can be composted, turning those shedding moments into something beneficial.
Ready to jump on the composting bandwagon?
Remember, it's all about balance:
- Greens (Nitrogen-rich): Think food scraps, coffee grounds, grass clippings.
- Browns (Carbon-rich): Cardboard, paper, dried leaves, straw.
Mix these in your chosen composting method (bin, pile, worm bin), keep it moist, and let nature work its magic!
By composting, we not only reduce waste but also create a valuable resource for our gardens and the environment. It's a win-win!
