They say retro is back in fashion, and nowhere is that more true than in the world of gaming. We're seeing classic consoles get reboots and remakes, pixels are making a mainstream comeback, and even old arcade cabinets are popping up in trendy bars.

But while everyone's talking about the NES Classic or the SNES Mini, I wanted to highlight a piece of gaming history that gets forgotten a lot: the N64 Expansion Pack.

For those who weren't there, remember anxiously waiting for the "rumored" next generation of gaming? Well, in 1999, Nintendo released the N64 Expansion Pack. It promised a boost to your beloved console, offering a sizable bump in memory and graphical capabilities.

Imagine the excitement! Suddenly, thoughts of sharper textures, smoother animations and maybe even slightly more polygons filled your mind.

But the reality was... well, it was a bit underwhelming. While a few select games like "Perfect Dark" and "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire" took advantage of the upgrade, most games remained visually similar to their standard N64 counterparts.

Still, the Expansion Pack holds a special place for N64 enthusiasts. It's a reminder of the times when hope for a quick graphical boost filled our imaginations and a testament to Nintendo's constant evolution.

What are your thoughts on the Expansion Pack? Was it a worthwhile addition to the N64, or did it fall flat? Let me know in the comments!
