Hello there!

On April 10, 2025, I attended the AWSome Day online conference: Cloud Made Simple β€” a masterclass for beginners, if I may say so. The event was conducted by Peter Vandaele and was divided into several insightful modules.

It was designed to help developers like me understand the vast world of AWS.

πŸ“˜ Session Highlights

✨ Introduction to AWS

The session began with a short and crisp introduction to AWS, followed by the basics of cloud computing. The concept of β€œRegions” was introduced β€” collections of Availability Zones. Then came an overview of AWS Global Infrastructure, including Edge Locations, Regional Edge Locations, and Regional Edge Caches.

The Edge infrastructure includes:

  • Amazon CloudFront (Content Delivery Network)

  • AWS Outposts

  • AWS Local Zones

  • AWS Wavelength

πŸ“€ Introduction to AWS Services: Compute, Storage, and Databases

This module provided a detailed explanation of EC2, its pricing, and its use cases. It also covered AWS Lambda, emphasizing the significance of serverless computing with real-world applications.

Storage was briefly introduced, followed by an overview of AWS storage options like Amazon S3 and Amazon EBS. Use cases were discussed, showing how EBS and S3 can be used together in practical scenarios.

For databases, we explored several AWS services such as:

  • Amazon RDS

  • Amazon Aurora

  • Amazon DynamoDB

The module concluded with a hands-on example using DynamoDB and some key takeaways.

πŸ” Introduction to AWS Services: Networking & Security

This session focused on networking, starting with Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). The usage of subnets was demonstrated through a live example. A clear diagram illustrated the structure of the infrastructure.

πŸš€ Innovation with AWS

This section showcased various verticals where AWS is driving innovation β€” including IoT, Machine Learning, and Blockchain β€” using real-life examples.

A demo on Generative AI was a major highlight.

We also touched upon:

  • AWS Ground Station

  • AWS Wavelength

The session concluded with a summary and closing remarks, encouraging us to explore AWS through the various demos provided.

πŸ™Œ Final Thoughts

The event was incredibly informative! If you missed the online conference, don't worry β€” you can still catch up by watching it on-demand until April 17, 2025.

Let me know if you attended too β€” I’d love to hear your favorite sessions or key takeaways!

Until next time!
