My DevOps Journey: Understanding How the Internet Works 🚀

Table of contents

I’ve recently kicked off my adventure in DevOps and Cloud technologies through training with Shubham and the #90DaysOfDevOps challenge 💻. While I’m getting comfy with the concepts, I’m documenting my progress to lock in and expand my knowledge 📝. Today, let’s unravel a core topic: How does the Internet work? 🌐
How does the Internet Works?
Internet is a global network that enables devices to communicate with each other. ⚡
Data travels through interconnected cables linking countries, enabling instant real-time information exchange. Tier-1 companies own these cables and lease them to Tier-2 providers and beyond. 🏢
OSI model & TCP/IP model.
The OSI model has seven layers that explain how data moves between devices, from cables to apps 📚. The real-world TCP/IP model, with four layers—Application, Transport, Internet, and Network—is simpler and widely used 🌍.
What is IP and MAC address?
An IP address is your device’s global ID, like a home address for the Internet 📍. A MAC address is its local ID, used to find it in a nearby network 🏠.
Routers & Switches.
Routers act like traffic cops, directing data between networks (e.g., from your home to a city network) 🚦. Switches connect devices in the same network, like linking your phone and laptop 🔗.
Firewall, Ports, Protocols.
Firewall: A digital bouncer that blocks unwanted data to keep your network safe 🛡️.
Ports: Virtual doors, like port 80 for web browsing, letting apps send or receive data 🚪.
Protocols: Rules for data communication, like TCP/IP for reliable Internet chats 📜.
Client-Server Architecture.
This is a setup where clients (like your phone) request data or services from servers over a network 🤝.
At the End, This is my week 1 learning and I share with you. Thanks my Mentor “Train With Shubham“ to get knowledge about networking in a easiest way.
