Why I started "One Mic" by Lyonn

I started One Mic because I believe Zambian rap and trap deserve a real home — a space where our voices, stories, and struggles can echo loud and clear. As a rapper based in Lusaka, I’ve seen the hunger, the talent, and the raw energy in our city and beyond. What we’ve been missing is a unified platform to bring it all together.

Music isn’t just sound to me — it’s life. I’m insanely passionate about what I do, and I know I’m not the only one. One Mic is my way of building a musical community that’s about more than just songs. It’s about culture, growth, and connection. We may all have different flows and messages, but in the end, we’re all telling one story — just through different mouths and words.

This blog is where we document our rise, celebrate our grind, and lay the foundation for what Zambian rap and trap can become. It’s not just my story — it’s our story. And it starts here. One mic. One voice. One movement.
