Fatwa Issued Against Actor Vijay For Allegedly Hosting 'Alcoholics' At Iftar Party In Chennai

A fatwa has been issued against Thalapathy Vijay, the Tamil Nadu actor-turned-politician, following a controversial iftar party he hosted on March 7 in Chennai.

Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilly, the National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, issued the fatwa in response to a query about Vijay's actions. The fatwa accuses Vijay of disrespecting Islam by inviting individuals reportedly involved in gambling and alcohol consumption to his Iftar event.

In his statement, Maulana Razvi emphasized that Vijay's past actions, including his portrayal of Muslims in a negative light in films like The Beast, led to the fatwa. "In The Beast, Vijay linked Muslims and the Muslim community to terrorism and militancy. He tried to show Muslims as ‘monsters’ and ‘devils.’ Now, since he is entering politics, he is doing Muslim appeasement," Razvi explained.

The fatwa also criticizes Vijay for inviting "alcoholics and gamblers" to the Iftar event, describing it as both illegal and sinful. The Maulana urged Muslims in Tamil Nadu not to trust or support individuals like Vijay, calling his actions disrespectful to Ramadan and Islamic practices.

Vijay, who is preparing for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, hosted the Iftar gathering where he dressed in traditional attire, joined the prayers, and broke his fast with attendees. His appearance from the sunroof of his campaign van, greeting his supporters, drew significant attention on social media.

In addition to the fatwa, there have been earlier controversies surrounding Vijay's political ambitions, particularly allegations that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), sought Y-security due to supposed threats from the Muslim community.
