Maulana Razvi Urges Muslims to Shun TVK Chief Vijay

In a controversial statement, Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, the National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat (AIMJ), has urged the Muslim community to avoid associating with TVK Chief Vijay, the leader of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). The fatwa, issued on Wednesday, cites Vijay's portrayal of Muslims in a negative light in his film roles and warns against supporting his political party.
Fatwa Calls for Distance from TVK Chief Vijay
Maulana Razvi's fatwa follows concerns raised by a member of the Muslim community in Chennai. The cleric, in his advisory, cautioned Muslims to avoid Vijay and his political activities, particularly criticizing his past film roles where Muslims were often depicted as terrorists. According to Razvi, these portrayals perpetuate harmful stereotypes about the Muslim community.
“I was approached by a Muslim individual who sought guidance on the matter, and through this fatwa, I have advised Muslims not to trust Vijay or his party,” Razvi explained. “His portrayal of Muslims in films has been consistently negative, contributing to a false and damaging image of Islam.”
Iftar Party Sparks Further Controversy
Vijay’s recent involvement in hosting an Iftar party has only added fuel to the fire. While some viewed the event as an attempt by the actor-turned-politician to engage with the Muslim community, Maulana Razvi argued that such actions are politically motivated and do not change Vijay’s overall stance on Muslims. He stressed that the community should remain cautious and refrain from inviting him to religious or political events.
“Vijay’s actions, including the Iftar party, should not be seen as a genuine gesture of solidarity with Muslims,” Razvi stated. “Instead, it reflects an attempt to use religious occasions for political purposes while continuing to harm the image of Muslims through his films.”
Political and Cultural Divides Deepen
The controversy surrounding Vijay’s portrayal of Muslims and his political actions has divided opinions within the Tamil Nadu political and cultural landscape. With his increasing involvement in state politics through TVK, the debate over the actor’s impact on the Muslim community continues to grow.
As the fatwa gains attention, the Muslim community now faces a dilemma regarding their relationship with public figures like Vijay, whose actions are seen by some as contradictory to their values. Whether Vijay’s political strategies, including his Iftar party, can win the support of Muslims remains uncertain, but for now, Maulana Razvi’s warning stands as a call for caution and reflection.
