Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, the president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, has issued a fatwa against Tamil Nadu actor-turned-politician Vijay, who is also the president of Tamilnadu Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

In a statement to ANI on Wednesday, Maulana Razvi criticized Vijay for his portrayal of Muslims in films and his actions surrounding a recent Iftar party. According to Razvi, Vijay's films have negatively depicted Muslims, associating them with terrorism. He also expressed concern about Vijay's Iftar event, where he alleged that gamblers and liquor drinkers were invited.

"Vijay has formed a political party and fostered relations with Muslims, but in his films, he has shown Muslims negatively, portraying them as terrorists. Additionally, at his Iftar party, people who were neither fasting nor observing Islamic practices attended. This angered the Sunni Muslims of Tamil Nadu, who requested a fatwa. As a result, I have issued a fatwa, advising Muslims to distance themselves from Vijay," said Maulana Razvi.

Notably, Vijay, the TVK leader, has also recently filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act of 2025.
