Unnamed Spinner Joins IPL Team After Auction Snub

Mumbai Indians leg-spinner Vignesh Puthur has been ruled out of the 18th IPL season. The 24-year-old Chinaman spinner took 6 wickets in 5 matches during his debut season, with an economy rate of 9.08. Even though he bowled part-time, Vignesh made a good impact for Mumbai. After his injury, Raghu Sharma has been called up to join the team for his first-ever IPL appearance.
The new leg-spinner added to Mumbai’s squad wasn’t even on the final list for this year’s IPL mega auction. However, he had been serving as a net bowler for the team for quite a while. Now, due to Vignesh’s injury, Raghu has got his big chance. Mumbai signed him for the base price of Rs 30 lakh. This will be the 32-year-old spinner’s first IPL season.
In a statement, the Mumbai team said, “Vignesh will begin his rehab with us and will be looked after by our medical and fitness staff.” Vignesh’s injury is unusual—he has fractures in the lower part of both knees.
Vignesh Puthur impressed in domestic cricket before earning his IPL chance. He played for Punjab and Puducherry, taking 57 wickets in 11 first-class matches at an average of 19.59. He also grabbed 14 wickets in 9 List A games and 3 wickets in 3 T20s.
Meanwhile, Mumbai had a poor start to this IPL season, losing four of their first five matches. However, they turned things around with five straight wins and are now in the top four. Hardik Pandya’s team sits third on the table with 12 points from 10 matches.
