5 Sixes in an over in IPL history

In the exciting and unpredictable world of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where matches can turn in the blink of an eye, hitting five sixes in a single over is a feat that only a select few batsmen have been able to achieve. To date, no batsman has been able to hit 6 consecutive sixes in an over in IPL history, but some batsmen have managed to hit 5 sixes. Over the years, only a handful of batsmen have achieved this remarkable feat, thereby etching their names in the IPL book.
1. Chris Gayle vs Pune Warriors India, 2013
The first instance of this incredible power-hitting display happened in the 2012 season. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the "Universe Boss" Chris Gayle unleashed his havoc on Pune Warriors India's Rahul Sharma. In one spectacular over at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Gayle stunned fans by smashing five towering sixes. In this innings, Gayle’s cricket score was 81 runs in just 48 balls. An innings that single-handedly led RCB to victory. Gayle's imposing presence and his ability to hit boundaries with ease made him a nightmare for bowlers, and this over is a testament to his unparalleled power-hitting skills in T20 cricket.
2. Rahul Tewatia vs Punjab Kings, 2020
In the 2020 season, during a match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Rahul Tewatia etched his name in the record books. In a dramatic twist of the match, Tewatia, who was initially struggling in his innings, suddenly broke out in the 18th over of Sheldon Cottrell. He smashed five consecutive sixes to take his team Rajasthan Royals, to victory. Tewatia's innings was a roller coaster of emotions, in which he completely turned from villain to hero. Thus, the unpredictable nature of the IPL is revealed.
3. Ravindra Jadeja vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, 2021
The 2021 IPL season saw another instance of five sixes in an over, this time from the bat of Chennai Super Kings (CSK)'s Ravindra Jadeja. Facing Royal Challengers Bangalore's Harshal Patel in the final over of CSK's innings, Jadeja got off to a stormy start. He hit five sixes along with a four and conceded 37 runs in that one over, which at the time was equal to the most expensive over in IPL history. Jadeja's explosive batting in the death overs took CSK to a strong score and eventually contributed to their victory. This performance highlighted Jadeja's evolution as a powerful hitter, adding another dimension to his already impressive all-round abilities.
4. Rinku Singh vs Gujarat Titans, 2023
A match that was perhaps the most exciting in IPL history to date. This match was played between the Gujarat Titans and the Kolkata Knight Riders in the year 2023. Playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Gujarat Titans (GT), Rinku Singh did the unthinkable. Needing 28 runs off the last five balls, Rinku Singh smashed five consecutive sixes off Yash Dayal to snatch a miraculous victory from the jaws of defeat. This incredible feat not only gave KKR a memorable win but also showcased Rinku Singh's composure under pressure and his ability to perform well in the most high-stakes situations. His innings instantly became a classic, celebrated for its audacity and match-winning impact.
