Willkommen bei Code Beyond the Earth! Ich bin Ece, die Stimme hinter Code Beyond the Earth.

Code Beyond the Earth’e hoş geldiniz! Ben Code Beyond the Earth’in sesi Ece.

I’ve been eagerly waiting to publish this post for about four months, and I’m so excited to finally share it with you. I really wanted to create this post in four languages, but to be quick today, I’m choosing English to meet you all. I plan to start this blog at the beginning of 2025. My passion for writing goes way beyond just this blog—I already have a personal blog, but since I started university, I’ve been planning to create a technical blog. And here I am, as a senior software engineer! :)

In this post, I want to ignite my passion for writing and combine it with my technical side. If you want to read more personal stories about me, feel free to visit my personal blog, which is also waiting for my dedicated return: https://derweltschmerz.wixsite.com/website.

Today, I’ll mostly talk about myself. I want to give you a brief overview of who I am, my goals for this blog, and what I want for the future. The questions get harder once I start writing with flow—do you notice that too?

Let’s start with the cliché way: I’m Ece. I graduated from the Computer Science Engineering Department at Marmara University in 2020. I spent my Erasmus semester in Germany in 2017, which was a wonderful experience that I really miss! Today, I work as a senior software engineer in a fintech company, and I’m also working on completing my master’s degree. I’m currently a master’s student in the Computational Science and Engineering Department at Bogazici University. I’m proudly working with IklimBU, and with an interdisciplinary approach, I’m trying to build the foundation of climate informatics. I’m also currently a bachelor’s student in Sociology at Anadolu University, and I will graduate with both my master’s and sociology bachelor’s degrees at the end of this summer. Here’s a little obvious secret: I’m planning to start my PhD in the near future! I believe the world needs more people who work interdisciplinary for a better future.

On a more personal note, I’m married and have a dog, a cat, and five budgies. Sometimes our house feels like a crazy house, but I’m truly happy with all of them. I really enjoy learning languages, and thinking and reading in different languages teaches me a lot. That’s also why I’m creating this blog in multiple languages. It helps me improve my language skills while also allowing me to reach more people worldwide. My native language is Turkish, and I speak English, French, and German as well. My current language goal is to pass the DELF B2 exam and not forget German! After that, we'll see what life has in store for me.

I really care about the environment. I define myself as an environmentalist and a feminist, maybe even an ecofeminist. I enjoy reading about the philosophy and theory of computer science. I’m a runner and a beginner cyclist, and I also play basketball and tennis. To relax, I crochet and sew clothes.

When I decided to start this blog, I actually wanted to create a personal notebook, as you can tell my interests are varied and I really want to talk about them. I also believe that a person is the sum of the five people around them, so I think creating this blog is a way to meet more ambitious and creative people!

So, what can you expect from my blog posts?

  • Computer Science Book Reviews

  • Philosophy and Ethics of CS/AI

  • Theoretical Background of Computer Science

  • Reviews of Famous or New Articles

  • Hands-on Technical Content with GitHub Links

  • AI for Climate Change

  • Memories of a Senior SWE

  • ...

As I mentioned earlier, this will be my technical notebook. I want to keep my approaches close to me and share them with you! Through these blog posts, we can meet, work on ideas, and maybe even change the world!

Oh, why did I choose the name Code Beyond the Earth? Because I’m a space addict—a real addict. There’s nothing that excites me more than space! You’ll see many geeky quotes in this blog. And as I mentioned before, I really want to contribute to Earth as a computer scientist.

I’m really pleased to meet you! My calendar for this blog is quite aggressive, but right now my only focus is my thesis and the DELF B2 exam. So, for now, we’ll meet weekly or bi-weekly. Once my milestones are completed, I’ll post more often and engage with you more!

From my world to yours, Ece 🌍✨
