Exploring Vizag :

A Trip I Didn’t Know I Needed

There are those trips you organize months in advance, and there are those which just… materialize. My Vizag solo trip was the latter kind. I was stuck in the same old monotony — work, screens, never-ending deadlines — and that familiar feeling was building up again to just be disconnected. Not from the world, per se, but from the din.

I was not in pursuit of adventure or luxury. I simply wanted peace. That’s how Vizag (Visakhapatnam) took place. A city by the sea that I had only heard about but never explored. And let me tell you — it turned out to be one of the most peaceful, joyful, and rejuvenating trips I have ever had.

Finding the Right Stay — My Mini Challenge

I arrived in Vizag without a clear plan. All I had in mind was that I needed a quiet, peaceful homestay near the beach — something simple, clean, and quiet. I did not need to waste hours browsing apps or reading reviews.

That’s when I used CheQin.ai, a travel app that my friend had suggested. Rather than manually looking at dozens of options, I just listed my requirements — lone traveller, own room, beachfront, Wi-Fi, flexible check-in.

What I liked was that homestays and houses came back with offers — I didn’t have to pursue them. I discovered a small, clean place just 10 minutes from RK Beach. The host was friendly, the room had a small balcony, and I could hear the ocean at night. Basic, secure, and just what I needed.

First Impressions of Vizag

Vizag doesn’t have the feel of a usual busy city. There’s a softness in the air — from the waves’ sound to the broad roads, from the smiling locals to the refreshing sea breeze. Everything seemed more laid-back.

The city is stunningly composed of sea and hills. I could see the Eastern Ghats along the city, and the Bay of Bengal on the opposite side. It immediately made me wonder if I had made the perfect decision.

What I Did — Slow, Simple, Soulful

1. RK Beach — My Go-To Spot
I used to walk barefoot on the beach every morning. Joggers were locals, children played cricket, and the sea salt merged with laughter in the air. I used to sit there for hours and observe the waves. Sometimes that is all you require.

2. Kailasagiri Hill Park
A short drive brought me to Kailasagiri, a hill park with a view that made me forget all else. There is a gigantic Shiva-Parvati statue, a ropeway, and a view of the coastline that is like a painting. I rode the ropeway down, and it was one of the most serene rides I’ve ever had.

3. Submarine Museum
I didn’t expect to enjoy this so much, but walking through a real submarine parked by the beach was a fascinating experience. Learning about the Navy’s work and life inside a submarine gave me a new kind of respect.

4. Yarada Beach
This one is a bit out and requires a bit of a hike, but it’s well worth every moment. It’s less crowded than RK Beach, cliffs surround it, and the sand is soft and yellow. I brought a book and just sat for hours.

5. Evening Cafés and Street Food
Vizag pleasantly surprised me with its café culture. I discovered serene spots that offered anything from filter coffee to continental cuisine. And street food? Simply outstanding. From hot punugulu to fresh sea food near the coast, every morsel was reassuring.

Why This Trip Felt So Special

Beyond sightseeing, this journey was about slowing down. For once, I wasn’t racing after a list of destinations. I was simply going with the flow, listening to myself, and doing what felt right.

There’s a different kind of happiness in traveling alone. You learn to appreciate your own company, and cities like Vizag make it easy. It’s safe, clean, and full of friendly faces.

In the evening, I would sit in the balcony of my homestay, drinking tea and listening to the gentle hum of the city blended with the sound of waves. I did not expect to feel so connected in a city that I had never visited before.

Quick Tips for Solo Travelers Visiting Vizag

. Stay Close to RK Beach — It’s central, safe, and you can walk to many spots.

. Use CheQin.ai to post your stay needs — it’s much easier than endlessly searching.

. Travel light — You’ll be moving around a lot, so a backpack is ideal.

. Rent a scooty or auto — Local travel is easy and budget-friendly.

.Start your day early — Beaches are best during sunrise, and spots like Kailasagiri are quieter in the morning.

. Speak to locals — They’ll lead you to the secret spots and good food far better than Google Maps ever can.

. Disconnect a little — Vizag is the ideal city to check out of work and simply be present.

Final Thoughts — Vizag Gave Me What I Needed

Some vacations are about adventure, some about checkbooking. But this vacation was about peace, contemplation, and happiness. I came to Vizag drained and left refreshed — both physically and mentally.

What added to its value was how stress-free my stay experience was. I didn’t have to worry about where I’d sleep and if it’d live up to my expectations. CheQin.ai made it easy for me to find a suitable place with no hassle so that I could really enjoy each moment.

If you ever need to take a break from the hustle — to breathe, to walk, to simply sit and be — I’d say try Vizag. Go alone, keep it simple, and let the sea do the rest.
