Spreading Smiles: Nourishing Hearts at Sneha Ashram

In the crisp morning hours of October 2023, a heartwarming scene unfolded at Sneha Ashram in Kathmandu. The Leo Club of Kathmandu Himalayas Patan, joining forces with the Lions Club of Kathmandu Manasalu and Leo Club of Kathmandu Manasalu, successfully conducted "खाना खुवाउने कार्यक्रम" (Food Serving Program) at 7:00 AM. This initiative, the second in the "Spreading Smiles" series, embodied the true spirit of service by addressing one of the most fundamental human needs—nourishment.

The early morning timing of the program was deliberate, allowing volunteers to prepare and serve breakfast to the children, starting their day with not just nutritious food but also the warmth of human connection. As the children gathered, their faces lit up with anticipation and gratitude, creating a powerful reminder of how simple acts of kindness can make a significant difference.

Distinguished Support and Collaboration

The impact of this initiative was amplified by the presence of distinguished leaders from the Lions and Leo community. The program was honored to have Lions Club of Kathmandu Manasalu's President Lion Kanhaiya Lal Gupta and Treasurer Lion Ramesh Shrestha in attendance, whose support validated the importance of such community service efforts. Their participation also strengthened the bonds between the parent Lions Club and the youth-led Leo Clubs, creating a beautiful continuum of service across generations.

Additionally, the program was enhanced by the presence of the Immediate Past President of Leo Club of Kathmandu Manasalu and current Region 1 Chairperson, Leo Bipin Yadav. His attendance highlighted the ongoing commitment of Leo leadership to direct service activities that make a tangible difference in children's lives.

More Than Just a Meal

While the program's primary objective was providing food to children at Sneha Ashram, its impact extended far beyond mere nutrition. For the children, this was a day filled with special attention, interaction with new people, and the joy of being prioritized by their community. Many of the volunteers noted the profound effect of seeing immediate smiles result from their service—a powerful reminder of why direct community engagement matters.

The volunteers prepared and served a nutritious meal carefully planned to be both satisfying and healthy. Throughout the serving process, Leo and Lions members engaged with the children, creating an atmosphere of celebration rather than charity. This approach upheld the dignity of the recipients while fostering meaningful connections between the servers and those being served.

Continuing a Legacy of Service

"Spreading Smiles" represents a continuation of the Leo Club of Kathmandu Himalayas Patan's commitment to regular, impactful service. By partnering with other clubs, the initiative demonstrated how collaboration multiplies impact and resources, allowing for more comprehensive service to the community.

The orphanage feeding program aligns perfectly with Leo clubs' mission of developing leadership through service. Each volunteer had the opportunity to contribute meaningfully while gaining firsthand experience of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in their community. These experiences shape more compassionate, aware young leaders who understand the true purpose of service.

As the morning concluded and volunteers departed Sneha Ashram, they carried with them memories of grateful smiles and the knowledge that for at least one day, they had made life a little brighter for children who face significant challenges. These moments of connection form the foundation of the ongoing commitment to service that defines the Leo and Lions movements worldwide.

The Leo Club of Kathmandu Himalayas Patan extends heartfelt appreciation to all members, partners, and supporters who contributed to making "Spreading Smiles" a resounding success, and looks forward to continuing this meaningful tradition of service.
