Tesla is exploring land in Satara to establish a completely knocked down (CKD) assembly unit for electric vehicles. The ev maker now is in discussions with anotheranother indian firm for a joint venture to aquire land and set up the unit. The CKD method allows for reduced import duties by importing vehicles parts seperately and assembling them locally.
