Carlton Towers, Amazing

Now then - let me tell you about a cracking night I had not long ago at a place called Carlton Towers in North Yorkshire. I was there for a mate’s party, and honestly, it was one of those places that just stops you in your tracks. You know when something’s proper grand but still feels welcoming? That’s Carlton Towers down to a tee.
First Impressions Count
As we pulled up the drive, I couldn’t help but stare. It’s an impressive sight — all turrets, stonework, and that stately home vibe. You’d half expect someone in a top hat and tails to come strolling out the front door. Turns out the place dates way back, and the main building’s been there in one form or another since the 1600s. Fair play, it’s been kept in mint condition.
The venue’s still looked after by the same family, the Fitzalan-Howards, andthey’ve done a brilliant job of keeping the soul of the place alive and appealing.
A Proper Do
The party itself was something else. Inside, it’s all high ceilings, huge windows, and chandeliers that look like they belong in a film set. We had drinks in this room called the Venetian Drawing Room — very fancy — and then moved through to the main hall where the dancing kicked off.
I’ve been to a few weddings and do’s over the years, but this one felt special. You’re surrounded by all this history, but it doesn’t feel stuffy. It’s grand, yeah, but still has that cosy Yorkshire charm.
A Room Fit for a King
After a fair few boat load of drinks (and throwing some shapes), I was ready to crash. Thankfully, we were staying the night, and I’d been given a room in one of the cottages. Each one’s a bit different, but mine had a massive bed, vintage furniture, and a cozy view over rear of the grounds. Not bad at all.
It’s not your usual hotel-style accommodation either — it feels personal, like you’re staying in someone’s home rather than just renting a room. Proper comfy and peaceful.
Bit of History
The next morning, I had a wander around before we left, just taking it all in. There’s something about the place — you can feel the history in the walls. You start thinking about all the folk who’ve lived there over the centuries, all the stories the place could tell.
Turns out Carlton Towers has been in the same family since the 1300s, which is mind-blowing when you think about it. Imagine growing up somewhere like that — it’s like Downton Abbey, but real life.
Worth a Visit
If you ever get the chance to go — for a party, a wedding, or just a weekend away — I’d 100% recommend it. It’s one of those hidden gems in Yorkshire that not everyone knows about, but once you’ve been, you’ll never forget it.
Carlton Towers has got that rare mix of elegance and warmth. It’s fancy, but never feels like you don’t belong. I came away feeling like I’d been part of something special. And to be honest, I’m already looking for an excuse to go back.
Cheers.
