स्पर्श: Leos Create Day of Connection for Children with Intellectual Disabilities

Leo Club of Kathmandu Himalayas Patan marked the third day of Leo Week with "स्पर्श: Touching Lives, Embracing Potential," a heartwarming program at the Centre for Children with Intellectual Disabilities in New Baneshwor. On December 3rd, Cluster 1 Leos transformed an ordinary Tuesday into an extraordinary celebration of ability, connection, and joy.

Meaningful Engagement

Starting at 11 AM, the program featured:

  • Interactive activities designed for diverse abilities
  • Art and music sessions encouraging creative expression
  • Games that promoted social interaction and confidence
  • Distribution of sensory-friendly toys and learning materials

The thoughtfully planned activities focused on the children's capabilities rather than limitations, creating an atmosphere of celebration and possibility.

Championing Inclusion

All clubs from Cluster 1 participated in this initiative, demonstrating the Leo commitment to disability inclusion. By choosing a center for children with intellectual disabilities, Leos highlighted an often-overlooked community and showcased the importance of inclusive programming.

"The joy on the children's faces showed us that sometimes the most important service is simply showing up and creating space for connection," shared one Leo volunteer. "We came to give, but we're leaving having received so much more."

Beyond a Single Day

While the program lasted just a few hours, its impact extends far beyond Leo Week. By engaging with the center, Leos built relationships that can lead to sustained support and continued visibility for disability inclusion in their future service work.

As Leo Week continues, this program stands out for its focus on a community that deserves ongoing attention and support.

Leo Club of Kathmandu Himalayas Patan (LCKHP), established in 1974, is Nepal's oldest Leo Club with a proud 50-year legacy of youth-led community service. As part of Lions Clubs International's global network, we empower young leaders aged 16-30 to create positive change through volunteering. Our diverse projects include blood donation camps, environmental clean-ups, health awareness campaigns, orphanage support, old age home visits, disaster relief, educational initiatives, and skill development workshops. Throughout our history, we've directly impacted thousands of lives across Kathmandu Valley and beyond. What sets LCKHP apart is our commitment to developing leadership skills among youth while addressing pressing community needs. Each project offers members hands-on experience in project management, teamwork, communication, and social responsibility. Our members gain valuable skills while making tangible differences in their communities. Beyond local efforts, we actively participate in regional and international Leo initiatives, collaborating with other clubs to amplify our impact. Our members represent Nepal's bright future—compassionate, skilled young professionals committed to service and leadership. This blog documents our journey, showcases our members' experiences, and shares the stories of communities we serve. Through these narratives, we hope to inspire more young people to embrace volunteering, demonstrate the power of youth-led initiatives, and highlight the positive transformation happening in Nepal through service. Join us in our mission to create meaningful change through leadership, experience, and opportunity—the core values that define the Leo spirit. #YouthLeadership #CommunityService #NepalVolunteers #LeoClub #SocialImpact
