A Virtual Voyage to Japan: Way to Sakura Blooms Through International Leo Collaboration

On April 25th, 2025, three Leo Clubs from different corners of South Asia came together for a shared celebration of language, learning, and culture — WAY TO SAKURA, an international virtual session dedicated to Japanese culture and communication.

Jointly organized by the Leo Club of Kathmandu Himalayas Patan (Nepal), Leo Club of Minuwangoda Circle (Sri Lanka), and Leo Club of Gauhati (India), the session marked a beautiful example of cross-border unity, where youth from different nations explored the elegance and essence of Japan together.

Blossoming Cultural Curiosity

Hosted via Google Meet, Way to Sakura guided participants through:

  • The cultural significance of cherry blossoms (sakura) in Japan

  • Fundamental Japanese greetings and language basics

  • Customs, festivals, and social etiquette unique to Japanese society

  • Insights into how culture shapes communication in Japan and beyond

The interactive, visually rich session was not only informative but also emotionally engaging — sparking genuine interest in Japan’s traditions and lifestyle.

Learning Without Borders

What made this event truly special was the collaborative spirit between the organizing Leo clubs. By coming together across national lines, they proved that learning has no borders — and that the Leo movement is a powerful platform for global citizenship and mutual respect.

“It felt like traveling to Japan, not just with my friends, but with peers from Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka,” shared one enthusiastic participant. “We laughed, learned, and connected.”

Growing Together, Globally

Way to Sakura stands as a shining example of what Leos can achieve when we collaborate beyond our local communities. Through shared knowledge and cultural respect, we’re not just learning about the world — we’re shaping it.

Thank you to all participants, organizers, and supporters who made this international project a success. May this spirit of unity and curiosity continue to blossom like sakura in every Leo’s heart.

Leo Club of Kathmandu Himalayas Patan (LCKHP), established in 1974, is Nepal's oldest Leo Club with a proud 50-year legacy of youth-led community service. As part of Lions Clubs International's global network, we empower young leaders aged 16-30 to create positive change through volunteering. Our diverse projects include blood donation camps, environmental clean-ups, health awareness campaigns, orphanage support, old age home visits, disaster relief, educational initiatives, and skill development workshops. Throughout our history, we've directly impacted thousands of lives across Kathmandu Valley and beyond. What sets LCKHP apart is our commitment to developing leadership skills among youth while addressing pressing community needs. Each project offers members hands-on experience in project management, teamwork, communication, and social responsibility. Our members gain valuable skills while making tangible differences in their communities. Beyond local efforts, we actively participate in regional and international Leo initiatives, collaborating with other clubs to amplify our impact. Our members represent Nepal's bright future—compassionate, skilled young professionals committed to service and leadership. This blog documents our journey, showcases our members' experiences, and shares the stories of communities we serve. Through these narratives, we hope to inspire more young people to embrace volunteering, demonstrate the power of youth-led initiatives, and highlight the positive transformation happening in Nepal through service. Join us in our mission to create meaningful change through leadership, experience, and opportunity—the core values that define the Leo spirit. #YouthLeadership #CommunityService #NepalVolunteers #LeoClub #SocialImpact
