Why I’m Using ASL to Make Tech More Inclusive

Hi! I’m a Developer Advocate, UI/UX designer, and web developer with over six years of experience. As someone passionate about inclusive design and accessibility, I’ve seen first-hand how tech can unintentionally exclude entire communities—especially the Deaf and hard-of-hearing.

That’s why I’m incorporating American Sign Language (ASL) into my tutorials and developer content. It’s part of my mission to make learning and working in tech more inclusive.

Why ASL in Tech?

Most online coding resources are voice-over videos or text-heavy docs, which aren’t always accessible to everyone. ASL offers a powerful visual communication method that reaches those who depend on sign language to understand technical content.

Using ASL in my tech content means:

  • More inclusive tutorials for Deaf/hard-of-hearing developers

  • Promoting visual-first learning in the dev community

  • Creating space for more diverse voices in tech

Projects I’m Working On

  • PokiXchange: I’m supporting a fintech platform for gift card and crypto trading by creating awareness through inclusive DevRel content and advocacy.

  • DevRel with ASL: I’m building content that fuses technical tutorials with American Sign Language, even as I improve my own fluency.

  • Research Paper: I'm currently writing a paper on the use of sign language in technology, with the goal of submitting it to global accessibility-focused platforms like the United Nations.

My Vision

Tech should be for everyone—not just those who can hear or speak a certain way. I believe the future of Developer Advocacy includes diverse communication, accessibility by design, and authentic inclusion.

This is just the beginning. Follow along as I share tools, tips, and resources for accessible development, ASL learning, and inclusive design practices.

Let’s build a tech community where everyone belongs.
