The much-awaited construction of the 184-foot-tall Lord Muruga statue on Maruthamalai Hill is set to begin shortly, as confirmed by Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, PK Sekar Babu. In a recent statement, the minister revealed that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has granted approval for the project, which will see the statue becoming the tallest of its kind in Asia. It will be situated at the base of the Maruthamalai Temple.

Speaking to the media after the inauguration of various facilities at Arulmigu Patteeswara Swamy Temple in Perur, PK Sekar Babu expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming project. "The work on the statue will commence soon," he said. Additionally, he mentioned that plans for the establishment of a polytechnic college at Vadavalli are also in motion, pending site selection.

At the Patteeswara Swamy Temple, several new facilities were unveiled, including a Darpana Mandapam (an area for prayer and rituals), Annadhana Kodam (a dining hall), and a Goshala (cow shelter). A new cement road and staff toilet were also introduced.

During the inauguration event, the minister conducted an inspection of the Maruthamalai Temple land to identify the most suitable location for the statue’s construction.

The government has also been working diligently to improve and renovate temples across the state. In the past four years, Rs 336 crore, contributed by devotees, has been spent on temple-related activities. A total of 2,948 temples have been renovated as part of the ongoing initiatives.

In a separate event, over 20,000 devotees participated in an immersion ceremony at the Arulmiku Mariamman Temple in Thondamuthur, Coimbatore, marking a day of significant religious observance.
