KeyShield

Program Introduction

KeyShield is a lightweight and straightforward tool that locks both the keyboard and mouse, without blocking the screen. It is designed for use in testing environments or when temporarily leaving your desk, allowing you to view the screen while preventing any user input.

Key Features

  • Locks both keyboard and mouse input
  • Does not lock the screen – you can still view your current desktop or application
  • Unlock by typing the password followed by the Enter key (no input box is shown)
  • Default password is 1234
  • Minimal tray menu located in the bottom-right corner of the screen (system tray)
  • Tray menu includes: Lock, Change Password, Exit
  • No need to enter the old password when changing to a new one
  • Quick lock using the ` (backtick) key and Scroll Lock key pressed together
  • Notification popup shown on lock and unlock

Why is this necessary?

In testing environments, or when leaving a system unattended, you may want to keep the display visible while preventing others from using the input devices. KeyShield allows exactly that – it blocks all input without interfering with what is shown on screen.

Also, if Windows locks due to inactivity (screen timeout), you can still unlock KeyShield first by typing your password and pressing Enter. After that, the regular Windows login screen will appear, allowing you to log in as usual.

Target Users

  • Developers or engineers who want to disable input during testing
  • Users who want to temporarily lock input without turning off or hiding the screen
  • Anyone needing a simple input lock tool without full screen lock

How to Use

  1. Launch the KeyShield program manually
  2. To lock:
    • Use the tray menu in the bottom-right corner and click Lock, or
    • Press the ` (backtick) key and the Scroll Lock key together
  3. To unlock:
    • While input is locked, type your password and press Enter
    • Default password is 1234 (can be changed later)
  4. To change the password:
    • Right-click the tray icon and select Change Password
    • Enter the new password and confirm it (old password is not required)
