Green Power Procurement in the Agrochemical Sector in India

JMK Research & Analytics Research has published its report on ๐—š๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—œ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฎ, highlighting the sectorโ€™s decarbonization potential. Agrochemical manufacturing, which significantly relies on fossil fuels for both raw materials and energy, is considered a hard-to-abate industrial sector. As part of its broader decarbonization efforts, the industry is expected to integrate renewable energy (RE) through two key near-term opportunities: increasing the share of RE in direct electricity consumption and adopting green hydrogen in fertilizer production.
Based on these developments, Indiaโ€™s agrochemical manufacturing sector (including fertilizers) could integrate up to ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿญ ๐—š๐—ช ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ฅ๐—˜ ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ฏ๐˜† ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿฌ, requiring an estimated investment of USD 7 billion. In addition to RE and green hydrogen, the sector also holds decarbonization potential through carbon capture and utilization (CCU) and scaling up the production of bio-products such as bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides.
