My Turning Point: What I Learned After Failing JEE & Getting Scammed

Yes, Time Travel is possible, and the best part? It doesnโt require a time machine โ just your ๐ง BRAIN.
So today, while sitting alone, I got a random thought:
โToday Iโve spent 3โ4 hours learning a skill,โ and imagining my future self, my brain literally thanked me for doing so.
Similarly, when you do the right things โ or even the wrong ones โ your brain analyzes and tells you if it was worth it or not. โ
โ
Letโs take an example:
Youโve completed your 12th Grade and have around 4+ months before your undergrad journey begins.
Now, there are multiple ways you could spend this time.
Letโs assume you choose to chill with friends, thinking this is the last phase of freedom before college ๐
But fast forward, college beginsโฆ
and you suddenly see yourself feeling left out because your classmates have already started building themselves โ learning skills ๐, strengthening their fundamentals ๐ก
This is where regret hits hard ๐
Itโs a phase where most people get stuck.
They feel so overwhelmed, they even give up on small things ๐ซค
But even then, if you restart โ and work harder than the rest โ you might just unlock your true potential ๐๐
Maybe Iโm overthinking, but I know this is the reality for most of my seniors.
My Story ๐งฉ
Iโm Atharva.
I always wanted to do a lot of things early in life, even though deep down I knew that early success is a scam ๐ธ
And yes, Iโve lost a lot of time because of that mindset.
I thought Iโd share this in another blog, butโฆ
I think this is the right place ๐
The Beginning: Coding, Content & Curiosity ๐จโ๐ป๐ฑ
During the Covid Pandemic, we all got glued to the internet โ and so did I ๐
Thatโs when my brother told me about coding ๐ป
I slowly started building interest. At the time, I was just in 8th Grade โ too small to understand the vast world of tech and programming ๐
But those flashy ads made it look like it was โjust for kidsโ ๐ง
So I purchased a coding course. It was a 6-month course, but guess what?
I completed it in 1.5 years ๐
Yeah, embarrassingโฆ but true.
It felt overwhelming, so I quit midway.
That course gave me dreams, but barely any coding ๐ฅฒ
Later, I came across the Instagram theme page business โ pages that post motivational content ๐ธ๐ฌ
This was the first time I wanted to earn money online ๐ฐ
So I invested โน5,000 into a course that promised to teach me everything โ content creation, sales, marketing, social media management ๐ฏ
At this point, I know you might be thinking I was stupid ๐คฆ
Yes โ I was.
I thought Iโd become a pro with that small investment.
After crying in front of my parents ๐ข, I bought the course.
It took me 6 months to make my first sale ๐ฅณ
I made some money, but it was time-consuming ๐
And as I said earlier โ I loved fast money โก
The Trap of Network Marketing ๐ธ๏ธ
I got pulled into Network Marketing โ again.
This time, they promised that with just one-time investment and three recruits, Iโd be driving a BMW next month ๐๐จ
Yeah, I knowโฆ youโre laughing ๐
But thatโs how they pitch it to everyone.
So I joined. Again.
I invested, recruited 1โ2 people, and guess what?
I was still a schoolboy ๐
My 10th Boards were online, so I had to quit everything and focus on exams ๐
Exams done.
Result? 87.60% ๐
Pune: Dreams, Distractions & Reality Check ๐๏ธ
For 11th & 12th, the stream was obviously SCIENCE ๐งช๐
I went to Pune for JEE prep.
Met amazing people โ some 10th toppers, others like me into online ventures ๐ฌ
We bonded well.
First few months were amazing โ treks, night outs, hostel chill scenes โ everything was perfect โบ๐ถ๐งโ๐คโ๐ง
Then I met ABC (letโs not name him)
He too was into network marketing ๐
This time, I knew MLM = SCAM ๐จ
I didnโt want to cheat innocent people ๐
But againโฆ the dream of earning back lost money pulled me in ๐ธ
I invested a huge amount and got scammed ๐
Youโre right โ I went to Pune for JEE, but did everything else instead ๐
After getting scammed badly, I couldnโt even face my parents ๐ซฃ
They brought me back home ๐
The 12th Reset ๐
This time, it was the end of 11th.
After two months, my dad asked me to go back to Pune and complete my JEE course.
I was thankful ๐โฆ but also tense ๐ฌ
I hadnโt opened a book the whole 11th โ basically a skip year โ๐
I started 12th with full motivation and discipline โ solving DPPs, giving tests โ๏ธโ
But then came advanced Physics & Chemistry, and I felt completely lost ๐งช๐ต
I couldnโt even see myself cracking JEE anymore ๐งโโ๏ธ๐ญ
The rest of the year, I was just negative ๐ญ๐ซ
And as expected โ I didnโt crack JEE โ
My 12th Boards?
Scored around 76% โ honestly better than all my friends, so I was satisfied ๐
Turning Point ๐
This time, I made a promise to myself:
No more time-wasting โณโ
I decided to learn a skill before college starts.
I chose Python ๐, and I started documenting my journey on LinkedIn and Instagram ๐งโ๐ป๐ฑ
Why?
Because in the long run, itโll help me:
โ
Build my personal brand
๐ค Connect with industry experts
๐ผ Maybe even get internships
Why I Wrote This Blog โ๏ธ
To share my learnings and experiences with you.
So that maybe, just maybe, it helps students like me ๐
Also, it gives me back my lost hobby โ WRITING ๐โค๏ธ
