day 1: intro to what is coming

Hello. My name is Dominique Desert, and I like to do a lot in the CS realm. Coding is something that I enjoy doing; it’s a fun way to solve problems and can be used in so many different fields.

I started in full-stack development, where I made basic webpages. To-do lists, pomodoro timers, etc. HTML/CSS was my beginning through Khan Academy, it was fun not only viewing the projects on there, but being able to replicate and create my versions of them. Then, I got a laptop…from the basement. My father's Toshiba from the 90s was my beginning, using 4GB of RAM and a 250GB HDD. It was super buggy and slow, but it was the best way for me to be able to learn how to code.

Later, during COVID, I took up ReactJS. Being unable to go out with friends or practice made it easier for me to keep on expanding my knowledge of code. ReactJS was easy due to my deep understanding of HTML/CSS, and with the help of YouTube, it was been rather exciting.

When I got accepted into my first high school for mechanical engineering, I expanded my coding languages once again, using C and Python. This led me to make projects outside of class with Python, where I started to learn about FinTech, helping my father with stocks, and automating his trades.

As of recently, I had to transfer out due to business and personal reasons. But the new school offered a more expansive CS program, offering so many more courses and more in-depth learning. I currently take the post-ap data science course, where I fell in love with machine learning, data science, and AI. It has been so much fun learning about, and I have been working and improving on my knowledge. Learning about the different Machine Learning models, building neural networks, and making linear regressions has been so much fun.

projects

DataViz - took CSV files and generated graphs that the user can download

PeerMatch - a place for students to match with fellow students with the same interests

CoreIdea - Sold - took various files and generated notes in markdown that could be downloaded, saved, etc.

AirBnb ML v NN - DS Final Project - I have to code an ML model, NN, and a Stacked (XGBoost and Random Forest) model to analyze NYC Airbnb prices. I also need to make a frontend, which I am still trying to figure out and work on.

Tips Linear Regression - the first linear regression I have ever done, took the tips CSV dataset and predicted the tip.

what i plan to blog about

In the blog, I want to talk about my coding projects and what I am trying to work on. From Internships to homeowrk I want to share what I learn and also learn fo
