MCP servers

So what basically is an MCP ?

Think of MCP like a USB-C port for AI applications. Just as USB-C provides a standardized way to connect your devices to various peripherals and accessories, MCP provides a standardized way to connect AI models to different data sources and tools.

**

Why MCP ?**

  • A growing list of pre-built integrations that your LLM can directly plug into

  • Best practices for securing your data within your infrastructure

  • The flexibility to switch between LLM providers and vendors

Why it matters and why you should pay attention to it?

What you are seeing is the emergence of the AI ecosystem. MCPs are the AI ecosystem’s first equivalent of apps. But there are some key differences compared to existing app ecosystems. These are a natural result of the fact that AI is more flexible than existing “rigid” structures like APIs. The input and output are text.

What’s next?

It’s still early days for MCP and there’s clearly a long way to go and a lot of stuff that has to be fixed.
