Detailed English Translation
Japan has various festivals throughout the year. Festivals are important events that represent Japanese culture and traditions.
In spring, cherry blossom festivals are held in various locations. People enjoy meals together with their families and friends while viewing the beautiful cherry blossoms. This custom is called "hanami" (flower viewing).
Summer's representative festival is the fireworks display. The colorful fireworks launched into the night sky move the hearts of those who watch them. Also, summer festivals are held at shrines, where you can buy delicious foods like yakisoba (fried noodles) and takoyaki (octopus balls) from food stalls.
In autumn, there are festivals celebrating the harvest. Especially after the rice harvesting is finished, farmers hold festivals to give thanks for the abundant harvest. It's traditional to eat mochi (rice cakes) made from newly harvested rice.
In winter, as preparation for welcoming the New Year, after doing a major house cleaning at year's end, people go to visit shrines. This is called "hatsumode" (New Year's shrine visit). Many people pray for happiness in the new year.
Festivals have an important role in deepening community bonds. When everyone from young people to elderly folks enjoys themselves together, the community connections become stronger. In modern society, such opportunities for interaction have become very precious.
