Rain Threat Looms Over RCB vs PBKS IPL 2025 Final: What Happens if Ahmedabad Plays Spoilsport?

Cricket enthusiasts are on the edge of their seats as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) gear up for a tantalising showdown in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final today, Tuesday, June 3. The iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is poised to host this high-octane clash, promising a thrilling spectacle for fans. RCB secured their spot in the summit clash with a dominant victory over PBKS in Qualifier 1. However, PBKS displayed remarkable resilience, bouncing back to defeat the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 on Sunday, thus earning their well-deserved place in the final. With both teams hungry for their maiden IPL title, the stage is perfectly set for a captivating finale. Cricket aficionados can anticipate a thrilling contest as star players from both sides lock horns in what promises to be a memorable conclusion to the 2025 IPL season.
Will Rain Play a Dampener in the RCB vs PBKS IPL 2025 Final?
Following the recent rain-affected clash between PBKS and MI at the same venue, concerns are mounting about potential weather disruptions during the highly anticipated IPL 2025 Final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Fans and organisers are closely monitoring the weather forecast for Tuesday, June 3. However, to ensure the grand finale proceeds smoothly, the organisers have implemented contingency measures to tackle any rain-related interruptions.
A reserve day has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, as a backup in case rain prevents any play on the original match day. Furthermore, both the scheduled final and the reserve day will have an additional 120 minutes of extra time incorporated to accommodate potential rain delays. This buffer provides the match officials with greater flexibility to complete the game before any overs start getting deducted, which will only occur if play doesn’t commence by 9:30 PM IST.
If rain disrupts play during the IPL 2025 Final between RCB and PBKS, the match officials have set a cut-off time of 11:56 PM IST to ensure a minimum of a five-over-per-side contest can be played. If the weather conditions do not permit the minimum number of overs to be bowled by this time, the match will be shifted to the Reserve Day, scheduled for June 4. The same regulations regarding extra time and cut-off timings will also apply on the Reserve Day, offering organisers a second opportunity to complete the match. However, if rain continues to play spoilsport on the Reserve Day and conditions don’t allow even a five-over game, the match will be abandoned. In such a scenario, the final will be called off, and the ultimate decision regarding the winner will be based on the tournament’s existing rules. Organisers are prepared for all eventualities to ensure a fair and conclusive finish to the IPL 2025 season.
What if the IPL 2025 Final is Washed Out?
According to the IPL guidelines, if no result is possible on either the scheduled Final day or the Reserve Day due to persistent rain or other unforeseen interruptions, the winner will be determined based on the league stage standings. In such a scenario, the team that finished higher in the points table at the end of the league phase will be declared the IPL 2025 champion. This rule puts the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a favourable position, as they topped the league table with an impressive 19 points after a stellar campaign. Therefore, if the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is washed out on both days and a minimum-over match cannot be played, PBKS would be officially crowned champions of IPL 2025. While fans will undoubtedly be hoping for a full-fledged match to decide the winner on the field, this rule ensures a fair conclusion in the face of uncontrollable weather conditions.
