Day 1 – What I Learned from Vulnerabilities 101 on TryHackMe

I finished the Vulnerabilities 101 room on TryHackMe today, and it was an excellent introduction to what vulnerabilities are in cybersecurity.

What Are Vulnerabilities?
Vulnerability is a flaw in the system that may be used by attackers. This room is covered:
- The distinction between threats, vulnerabilities, and exploits
- How threats are publicly recorded using CVEs
- Exploit-DB and NVD-style tools and databases
Key Takeaways
- There is a CVSS rating for each vulnerability that expresses how dangerous it is.
- Public databases like CVE/NVD are important for research. - Vulnerability awareness is the starting point for any assessment process

No Tools Yet, But Gearing Up
This room did not require hands-on equipment, but it paved the way for using scanners such as:
- Nmap
- OpenVAS
- Nessus

What's Next?
Tomorrow, I will enter the Nmap room on TryHackMe to begin learning the process of scanning networks and discovering open ports and services. If you are a beginner in cybersecurity or vulnerability scanning, I strongly recommend this room. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue on my learning journey!
