These two players also won the IPL title in 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally ended their 18-year wait for their first Indian Premier League championship by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final held in Ahmedabad on June 3.

After winning the toss, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer elected to bowl first. Virat Kohli was the top scorer for RCB with 43 runs, while PBKS’s disciplined bowling attack effectively controlled the innings. Other important contributions for RCB came from Liam Livingstone (25), Rajat Patidar (26), and both Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal, who scored 24 runs each.

For PBKS, Kyle Jamieson and Arshdeep Singh were outstanding bowlers, each taking three wickets.

PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh couldn’t provide their usual explosive start. Josh Inglis injected momentum with a quick 39 runs off 23 balls, while Arya (24) and Prabhsimran (26) showed resilience at the crease.

However, RCB’s bowlers bowled tightly, limiting PBKS’s power hitters. Despite this, PBKS finished with a total of 184/7 in 20 overs, largely due to Shashank Singh’s unbeaten 61 runs, which included six sixes and three fours. RCB’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya took two wickets each.

RCB won the match by six runs, claiming their maiden title in 2025. Celebrations erupted as Virat Kohli and the RCB team rejoiced over their first IPL trophy in eighteen years.

Phil Salt and Suyash Sharma Become Two-Time IPL Champions

Two members of the RCB squad, England’s Phil Salt and uncapped Indian bowler Suyash Sharma, have become two-time IPL champions. Both had previously won the IPL 2024 title with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.

However, KKR released both players ahead of the IPL 2025 season, and RCB acquired them during the mega auction.

Salt and Sharma played crucial roles in RCB’s successful IPL 2025 campaign. Salt, opening the batting for RCB, scored 403 runs in 13 matches, including four half-centuries, at an impressive strike rate of 175.38. His aggressive starts gave the team strong momentum, allowing Virat Kohli to anchor the innings from the other end.

Meanwhile, Suyash Sharma, frequently used as an impact substitute, took eight wickets in 14 matches. His best bowling figures were 3/17, and he maintained an economy rate of 8.84. While he didn’t claim many high-profile wickets, he consistently bowled tight spells, often supported by Krunal Pandya at the other end.
