Irfan Pathan has named Virat Kohli and Sai Sudharsan as the openers in his best XI for IPL 2025. The cricketer-turned-commentator revealed his ideal team for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which concluded on Tuesday, June 3, with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) winning the trophy by beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final by six runs.

Pathan selected a total of 12 players for his tournament team. Among these, he chose three players each from RCB, Mumbai Indians (MI), and Gujarat Titans (GT). He also included one player each from PBKS, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

IPL: The former left-arm seamer appointed Shreyas Iyer as the captain of his best XI. Under Iyer’s leadership, PBKS reached the playoffs and final for the first time in 10 seasons, their last appearance being in 2014 when they also finished as runners-up.

Irfan Pathan posted on his official X account (formerly Twitter) to reveal his best XI of the IPL 2025 season. He chose Virat Kohli and Sai Sudharsan as the opening batsmen for his team. Besides Kohli, Krunal Pandya and Josh Hazlewood were the other two Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) players included in his lineup.

Pathan also included GT opener Sai Sudharsan, who won the Orange Cap, in his team of the tournament. Jos Buttler and Prasidh Krishna were the other Gujarat Titans (GT) players selected by Pathan. Additionally, he picked Mumbai Indians (MI) stars Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah to complete his best XI.

Notably, Kohli was the top run-scorer for the eventual champions RCB, accumulating 657 runs. In the overall season standings, he ranked third in total runs scored. Hazlewood was the leading wicket-taker for the champions, claiming 22 wickets.

In the tournament’s overall bowling rankings, he finished third among the top wicket-takers. The Purple Cap in IPL 2025 was won by GT pacer Krishna, who took 25 wickets.
