Why I Chose to Document My Learning Journey Publicly

Hello, I am Prakriti and right now I am learning cybersecurity, AI, UI/UX design, and full stack programming. It can be overwhelming to learn about all of these subjects. To keep myself motivated and make sense of all I'm learning, I've decided to openly document my learning experience on this blog. Sharing my progress, problems, and projects makes me accountable while also allowing me to reflect and grow. More significantly, I hope that my experiences can inspire and help others who are on the same path.

Why I Chose Public Documentation

Motivation has always been a struggle for me. As my interests grow and overlap across fields, it’s become harder to stay focused and consistent with even one area at a time.

While browsing through social media one night, I came across a short video about documenting - public documentation of progress - to achieve our utmost potential, and how it can help us stay on track with our goals instead of letting doomscrolling pull us back to our old habits.

Reason 1: Accountability

I believe that having and maintaining a form of public documentation for my progress could not only help me hold myself accountable to complete the tasks and deadlines I set for myself, but also to help others who, like me, often feel they’re falling behind in areas they know they have potential in, that knowledge of potential that is buried because of fear, procrastination and the neverending cycle of falling for all those aesthetic videos on the internet (they are good motivators, but for people like me who compares herself to every video that comes across proves to be a struggle to stay consistent)

Reason 2: Progress Tracking

Even before I knew what documentation was, I had different ways of documenting my activities. Through a check-list, a scribble of assignments on an a4 size paper, or just a notebook assigned to it.

These, during my school, had helped me stay on track of my assignments and projects. Now after COVID-19 and many burnouts in college I want to get back into documenting, to have something to look back on and see how far I have come, something to make me look forward to adding to the collection, something that will help me look at my progress instead of comparing my progress to others’ years of it.

Reason 3: Community and Feedback

One of the many benefits I see to sharing my work publicly is connecting with like-minded individuals - learners, developers, designers - who are just as passionate as me to learn and advance in the field of technology.

The tech community is full of people who want to share insights, feedback, and even collaborate on projects. I want to connect with them through this blog, confident that this will help me stay on the path of my learning journey and advance in the subjects I am passionate about.

Reason 4: Helping others

With the advancement in social media and all the interactions it brings, it is easy to get lost in the cycle of feeling like you’re behind on everything, like you’re not doing enough, like you’re not even trying, when all of this could not be further than the truth.

I want to help others who, like me, have fallen into the cycle of comparing themselves to polished videos of progress. While those are inspiring, they are not the standard—and it's important to remember that.

I hope to help others to overcome that ideology and thrive in their field, in a way it is possible and enjoyable for them.

Bottom line

My goal for this blog is to help me stay consistent with my goals, hold me accountable so that I improve my skills on a regular basis, and create a kind of resource beginners or anyone really can come back to.

I also hope to meet like-minded people in the tech community and bring a bit of positive energy to the process of learning, coding, and sticking with it.
