Yashasvi Jaiswal was clearly upset with the umpire’s decision and made sure to express his displeasure to the official.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Displeasure Over Controversial Dismissal

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal was visibly unhappy after being given out for a low score during India A’s second unofficial Test against England Lions at Northampton’s County Ground on Friday. At 17 runs off 25 balls with two boundaries, Jaiswal was trapped lbw by an inswinger from Chris Woakes. The umpire’s quick decision to raise the finger left the left-handed opener visibly amused and frustrated.

The dismissal came in the seventh over after England Lions captain James Rew won the toss and chose to field under cloudy skies. Jaiswal tried to flick a full delivery but missed the ball, feeling it was swinging too much. The umpire, however, did not agree and gave him out, prompting Jaiswal to stand his ground initially before finally walking back after a brief protest. The Barmy Army’s reaction on social media added more controversy to the moment.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 24 and 64 in the first unofficial Test at Canterbury, which ended in a draw. He is expected to open the innings alongside KL Rahul in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, starting June 20. The opening partnership became clearer when both batsmen started the proceedings in the ongoing match. Rahul had missed the first red-ball game but joined the second unofficial Test after getting permission from the BCCI and has already struck three boundaries, showing promise.

This match will be followed by India’s only intra-squad game, where India A players will face the senior team before gearing up for the series opener. For Jaiswal and Rahul, the five-Test series presents a significant challenge as the team will rely heavily on them in the absence of the recently retired Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Hopes pinned on Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul

Yashasvi Jaiswal was India’s standout batter during the otherwise challenging tour of Australia. Among the three Indian centurions—alongside Virat Kohli and Nitish Reddy—Jaiswal topped the charts with 391 runs, including a career-best 161 in the first Test at Perth, which India won convincingly by 295 runs.

KL Rahul, on the other hand, is well-acquainted with England’s conditions, embarking on his third England tour after playing in the 2018 and 2021 series. In 2018, he amassed 299 runs, highlighted by a 149 at The Oval. Three years later, Rahul improved on this, scoring 315 runs in four Tests, including a century at the prestigious Lord’s cricket ground.

Although Rahul struggled somewhat in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy—scoring 276 runs—he remained more composed than many of his teammates, registering two half-centuries. Now returning as an opener, the experienced Rahul carries the hopes of anchoring India’s batting against a relatively inexperienced England pace attack.
