🧠 Introduction: What is Generative AI?

Generative AI is like the star all-rounder of the digital world. It doesn't just follow instructions—it creates. It can write articles, compose music, generate code, draw art, and even talk to you like a human.

Let’s break down the term:

  • Generative = Ability to generate new content.

  • AI (Artificial Intelligence) = Machines simulating human intelligence.

🤔 Let’s Visualise:

You ask Google: "How to create a personal web portfolio?" It gives you links, templates, and articles.

You ask ChatGPT: "Can you create a web portfolio for me?"

ChatGPT replies with code, layout ideas, and content.

That’s the difference: Google refers. Generative AI creates.

🙁 First Fear: Do I Need to Be Good at Maths?

The biggest fear for beginners is this:

“Do I need to be good at maths to learn AI?”

It’s a fair concern.

But here's the truth: You don’t need to be a maths expert to use Generative AI.

Yes, concepts like statistics, probability, and linear algebra power the engine, but just like cricket:

  • You don’t need to know the physics of swing to bowl well.

  • You don’t need to solve equations to hit a six.

You just need to learn how to play with prompts.

🚗 GPT: The MVP of This Match

Let’s meet the superstar: GPT = Generative Pre-trained Transformer

📚 Think of GPT as a Cricket Team:

  • Generative: Plays aggressively—creates runs.

  • Pre-trained: Has trained for years in the nets (billions of words).

  • Transformer: The game plan engine—the team’s strategy.

You give it a prompt like:

"My name is A..."

It continues with:

"run."

Just like a smart batsman who reads the field and predicts the bowler, GPT predicts the next best word.

🧪 Tokens: Every Word is a Delivery

In Generative AI:

  • "Hello I am Arshdeep" is not a sentence, it's a sequence of tokens.

  • "Hello" may be one token or two, depending on the model.

🤖 Input Tokens:

  • What you type into the model.

🏆 Output Tokens:

  • What the model responds with.

🚨 Tokenization is like counting the balls in an over. Each token matters.

🔍 Vector Embeddings: Player Stats

Imagine each token (word) as a player.

Each has stats:

  • Batting Power

  • Fielding Skill

  • Stamina

In AI, this is a vector: a set of numbers that represents meaning.

Words like "king" and "queen" have similar vectors—they play in the same league.

🌍 Positional Encoding: Who’s Playing Where?

Words change meaning based on where they appear:

  • "Arshdeep loves AI" ≠ "AI loves Arshdeep"

Just like a wicketkeeper is not a bowler, positional encoding tells the model:

  • who’s batting, who’s bowling, and who’s standing at slip.

✨ Self-Attention: The Captain’s Eye

When the model sees:

"The ball hit the bat and flew for a six"

It understands:

  • The ball is important

  • The bat is connected

  • The six is the outcome

Self-attention is like the team captain focusing on the key players in a given situation.

⚖️ Training vs Inferencing: Nets vs Match Day

  • Training = Practice sessions. The model learns grammar, logic, facts, and reasoning.

  • Inferencing = Match day. The model responds using what it has already learned.

🌟 You don't train GPT every time. You just prompt it, and it performs.

⚠️ Not Every Shot is Perfect

Even the best players make mistakes.

  • GPT can "hallucinate"

  • It may make factual errors

  • It has token limits

📅 But with a good prompt and context, you can play a flawless innings.

📅 Final Over: AI is Your Team, Not Your Opponent

Don’t fear AI. Use it like:

  • A bowler uses line and length

  • A batsman reads the field

  • A coach plans strategies

All you need is:

  • A solid prompt (like a powerful shot)

  • A goal in mind (your scoreboard)

  • And curiosity to learn (your passion for the game)

Whether you're a:

  • Student in Punjab

  • Engineer in Mumbai

  • Marketer in Bangalore

Generative AI is your team. Just step onto the field and play.
