My Journey into Tech: Bridging IT and Finance as a Woman in Tech

When people hear that I have both a B.Tech in Information Technology and an MBA in Finance, they often ask, “So, are you in tech or finance?” My answer is always the same: both.

My journey into tech started in the classroom, where I pursued my B.Tech in IT. Like many others, I was drawn to the logic and creativity that programming offered. I loved the thrill of solving problems, building solutions, and seeing my code come to life. But I also realized something early on — building technology is one thing, but understanding its impact on business is another.

That’s what led me to pursue an MBA in Finance. I wanted to understand the bigger picture — how tech drives decisions, profits, investments, and growth in the real world. And I wanted to be someone who could speak both languages: the code and the capital.

But navigating this journey as a woman hasn’t always been easy.

I’ve walked into boardrooms where I was the youngest and the only woman. I’ve sat in tech meetings where assumptions were made about what I could (or couldn’t) do, just based on my gender. I’ve seen how leadership often overlooks those who don’t fit the traditional mold — and I’ve had to work twice as hard to earn half the recognition.

Still, I’ve also seen progress.

I’ve worked with inspiring women leaders, been mentored by supportive managers, and been part of diverse teams where my hybrid skills were celebrated. Being able to bridge tech and finance has allowed me to contribute in unique ways — whether it’s building data-driven financial tools, working on fintech projects, or helping startups align their product strategies with financial goals.

Now, I advocate for more women to explore tech, finance, or — like me — both. You don’t have to choose one path. Your diverse background is your strength.

We need more women, more non-binary professionals, more diverse voices in the rooms where decisions are made and innovations are born. We need people who understand not just how to build technology, but why it matters.

If you’re reading this and wondering if you belong in tech: you do. And we need you here.
