Learn about the cricketers who retired in 2025

So far in the year 2025, many changes have been seen in world cricket, including the retirement of many great players. You will be shocked to hear that more than a dozen star cricketers have said goodbye to at least one format of cricket, and something similar may happen in the upcoming cricket matches. In this article, we will learn about those international star cricketers who have retired in the year 2025.
Players who retired from international cricket
In early 2025, India’s Rishi Dhawan retired from international cricket. He did not get much success in his international career. He played only 3 T20S and one ODI. Former fast bowler Varun Aaron, leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, and wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha are also Indian players who have said goodbye to their international careers. Apart from Indian players, some foreign players have also said goodbye to their international career, including New Zealand’s greatest opener Martin Guptill, West Indies’ explosive wicketkeeper batsman Nicholas Pooran, South Africa’s destructive wicketkeeper batsman Heinrich Klaasen, Bangladesh’s greatest all-rounder Mahmudullah and opener Tamim Iqbal, Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne, and Afghanistan’s fast bowler Shapoor Zadran.
Players who said goodbye to any format
Many players have retired from one or dual formats in 2025. This list also includes India’s legendary batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who said goodbye to red-ball cricket in June 2025. In the upcoming cricket matches, India will face England in a five-match test series from June 20. But they both took their test retirements before this series. Both of them have already retired from T20Is as well. Now, both of them are available only for ODI cricket. Apart from these legendary Indian pair, Australia’s Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, and Steven Smith (after being eliminated from the Champions Trophy semi-finals), and Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim have also said goodbye to the ODI format.
There could be some upcoming retirements after the WTC Final. To this list, some names could be added after the World Test Championship 2025 Final, which will be played between defending champions Australia and mighty Proteas South Africa at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from June 11–15. Veteran Australian batsmen Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith are among those who could retire from Test cricket as well. Maybe Mitchell Starc or one of his bowling partners could also bid adieu to the red-ball format. It won’t be shocking for fans if any South African veteran, such as Kagiso Rabada or Keshav Maharaj, decides to retire.
