IIT Bombay Launches Online Diploma in IC Design to Boost Semiconductor Talent

In a strategic move to support India's semiconductor ambitions, IIT Bombay has launched an 18-month online Postgraduate Diploma in Integrated Circuits (IC) Design, in partnership with Simplilearn. The program is tailored for engineering graduates and working professionals eager to build expertise in chip design and circuit architecture.

Developed by IIT Bombay’s Department of Electrical Engineering, the diploma curriculum covers key areas such as analog and digital IC design, mixed signal systems, wireless communication, and system-level integration. Participants must complete seven courses and earn 36 credits to receive the diploma from the prestigious institute.

This launch aligns with India's broader push to become a global semiconductor hub, with five major semiconductor projects worth over $18 billion underway. The government's aim is to scale electronics manufacturing to $500 billion by 2030, creating massive demand for skilled IC design professionals.

Speaking at the launch, IIT Bombay Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare emphasized the importance of accessible education:

“We aim to empower a broader group of learners, particularly professionals, by offering high-quality flexible learning that equips them for future technology advancements.”

The program is delivered entirely online, making it flexible for professionals across India. IIT Bombay faculty will lead all classes, ensuring top-tier instruction and real-world relevance.

Kashyap Dalal, Cofounder and COO of Simplilearn, highlighted the partnership’s significance:

“This diploma represents world-class education and will pave the way for a new generation of leaders in semiconductor design.”

This initiative reflects a growing synergy between academic institutions and industry needs, accelerating India’s journey towards semiconductor self-reliance.
