11 Bowlers Took Over 50 Wickets in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. Led by Temba Bavuma, South Africa outplayed Australia in the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25, winning by five wickets. The Proteas dominated Pat Cummins and his team in the final innings at Lord’s, chasing down a challenging target of 282 runs to claim their first-ever ICC WTC title.
Nine teams participated in the ICC WTC 2023-25, each playing six Test series during the tournament three at home and three away. Teams were ranked on the points table based on their win percentage (PCT).
South Africa topped the points table with a 69.44% win rate. Of their six series, they won four, lost one, and drew one. Out of 12 matches, they secured eight wins, suffered three losses, and drew one. Impressively, they won seven consecutive matches leading up to the final.
Australia finished a close second with a 67.54% PCT. The defending champions won four series and drew two. Across 19 Tests, Australia won 13, lost four, and drew two.
India and New Zealand claimed third and fourth place respectively, delivering strong performances throughout the tournament. However, India lost their last two Test series and missed out on the final this time, after finishing as runners-up in the previous two editions. New Zealand whitewashed India but were defeated in their final home series by England.
The thrilling final at Lord’s between South Africa and Australia was a roller-coaster. Australia were bowled out for 212 in the first innings, and South Africa struggled on a bowler-friendly pitch, being dismissed for just 138. The pitch then eased, and Australia scored 207 in their second innings, setting South Africa a daunting target of 282.
In the final innings, Temba Bavuma and his team kept their composure under pressure. Outstanding batting from Aiden Markram (136) and Bavuma (66) helped South Africa chase down the target and win by five wickets.
The third edition of the ICC WTC saw remarkable bowling performances over the two years. Several bowlers maintained consistent form across series and finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-takers.
In total, 11 bowlers took more than 50 wickets during the ICC WTC 2023-25 cycle. Among the top five wicket-takers are three Australians and two Indians, including both pacers and spinners. Here is a look at the top 10 highest wicket-takers in the ICC WTC 2023-25.
