The upcoming five-match Test series in England will usher in a new generation of Indian cricketers, highlighted by the appointment of Shubman Gill as the new red-ball captain. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having recently retired from Test cricket, and R Ashwin announcing his retirement from all formats, India faces a significant transition.
England’s Brydon Carse, preparing for his home Test debut, acknowledged the impact of Kohli and Rohit Sharma absence, calling them a huge loss for India. Nonetheless, Carse emphasized that facing the Indian side would remain a formidable challenge.

“But the depth that Indian cricket have and the quality and players coming through, you know, they will, without a doubt, put up a very strong 11 and we’re ready for whatever challenge that brings.”
India’s batting lineup will have a fresh look, especially at the top order. Sai Sudharsan is expected to make his debut and is predicted to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Comeback king Karun Nair is also in contention for a spot in the top order.
“So, whenever we have an opportunity at any of their top-order batters, we’ll have plans and processes in place, to obviously knock them over as quick as we can.”
The opening Test will be held in Leeds, marking Carse’s first red-ball appearance on English soil as part of the playing XI.
