In a politically charged moment during the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) General Committee meeting held in Dharmapuri on Thursday, PMK President Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss made a pointed remark about the hospitalisation of senior party leader GK Mani, amid growing speculation of internal discord within the party.

PMK General Committee Passes Key Resolutions

The PMK meeting saw the passage of 17 resolutions aimed at addressing critical issues in Tamil Nadu. These included:

  • Implementation of the Cauvery Surplus Water Scheme

  • Improvement of rural road infrastructure

  • Execution of pending water management projects

Despite the significant policy discussions, attention shifted to the absence of party veteran and honorary president GK Mani, and Assembly floor leader R Arul, both of whom were admitted to separate hospitals in Chennai on June 18, reportedly due to “sudden illness.”

Anbumani’s Remarks Stir Speculation

During his address, Anbumani didn't shy away from the controversy. Taking a subtle dig, he asked:

“Has the honorary president of the party come to the meeting? In the morning, we prayed for his well-being in Salem. It seems it will take a few days. I guess our prayers are not enough. I sincerely wish him and others good health.”

His words were seen as a veiled jab, especially in the context of ongoing tensions within PMK's top leadership, and suggestions that the hospitalisations were timed to avoid participating in the party meetings called by Anbumani.

Father-Son Tensions Within PMK

The party has also been witnessing strain between Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss and his father, Dr. S. Ramadoss, the founder of PMK. Referring briefly to the internal friction, Anbumani said:

“My commitment is to the party and its cadre. This is all I can say at this time. There are many burdens that I cannot share.”

This statement further fueled speculation about power struggles and disagreements over party leadership and strategy.

Earlier in the day, Anbumani attended a district general body meeting in Salem, reinforcing his active leadership stance amid signs of resistance from senior members.

What Lies Ahead for PMK?

The developments point to a period of introspection and internal realignment for the Pattali Makkal Katchi. As Anbumani asserts his leadership with renewed confidence, his remarks reflect both growing control over the party machinery and deep undercurrents of dissent.

Whether this signals a generational shift or an internal showdown remains to be seen. For now, the political future of the PMK hangs in the balance as the party navigates both organizational challenges and health concerns among its top brass.
