Jamshedpur Shuts Schools for Classes 1 to 8 on June 20 Over Heavy Rain Forecast

As a precautionary measure in response to a severe weather alert, the East Singhbhum district administration has declared a one-day closure of all schools—government, private, aided, and minority institutions—for Classes 1 to 8 on June 20, 2025.

The move follows an India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of continuous heavy rainfall in the region and rising river levels, which pose a threat to public safety, especially to young students.

Why the Closure?

Heavy rain forecast for the next 24 hours

Risk of waterlogging and river flooding

Potential for disrupted transport and unsafe school commutes

The order, issued under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, was signed by the District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner, who stressed the importance of the measure as a preventive step to protect schoolchildren.

Strict Compliance Ordered

All school heads have been directed to enforce the closure without exception. The administration stated that it is actively monitoring the weather and will issue further advisories if needed.

Residents have also been urged to remain alert and follow updates from official channels as the region braces for intensified monsoon activity.
