Day 2 of the first India vs England Test in Leeds had it all—centuries, collapses, breakthroughs, and stump mic banter. Shubman Gill and Co. continued their strong start as Rishabh Pant scored his seventh Test ton. However, India stumbled, losing their last seven wickets for just 41 runs, finishing at 471.
Jasprit Bumrah opened India’s bowling with fire, dismissing Zak Crawley for 4. Despite this early blow, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope built a solid 122-run stand. Duckett eventually fell for 62, and Pope went on to score his ninth Test hundred. Bumrah returned to remove Joe Root and nearly had Harry Brook too, only to be denied by a no-ball. England ended the day on 209/3, trailing India by 262 runs with seven wickets in hand.
Amid the action, the stump mic picked up some light-hearted moments. Rishabh Pant, diving full-stretch to stop leg byes, jokingly shouted, “Mei bhi khel raha hu bhai! Apne chauke ke chakkar mei, mera chauka mat de dena.” Later, after a confusing ball from Jadeja, skipper Gill added, “Abhi ye pura confused hai Jaddu bhai… Abhi isko kuch pata nhi lag raha!” Moments like these added flavour to a dramatic day of cricket.
