Week 1: Intro, Git & HTML

I’ve gone through the first three sections of The Odin Project: Introduction, Prerequisites, and Git Basics. Since I’ve already explored different areas of IT – like cybersecurity, software development, and app development – most of these concepts were familiar.
But it was a great refresher, and I definitely picked up a few things I hadn’t fully understood before.
The Git section was especially useful. It gave me a solid foundation for understanding what Git is and how to use it effectively. I finally got a clearer idea of how version control works, and how I can use it to organize my projects better.
HTML Foundations
Next up was the HTML section. It covered the basics like tags, lists, text, images, and elements. While I had seen most of it before, this time I understood much better how everything fits together.
Going through the HTML boilerplate was particularly helpful. I never really knew what made an HTML file “work” behind the scenes – now I get why those different parts matter.
Before starting the project, there was also a lesson on Git commit messages, which taught me the difference between good and bad commit messages: when to commit, what to write in the subject and body, and why clarity matters.
Not gonna lie – I don’t think I’ve fully grasped it yet, but like most things, practice makes perfect.
My First Project: Recipe Page
Then came the first project: building a recipe page using just HTML. It was a pretty simple task in terms of requirements, but it helped me practice everything I had learned.
I got to see how a basic webpage is structured and how all the pieces come together when you’re building something from scratch.

Reflections
I’ll be honest – I could’ve done more this week. But I’m part-time lazy and part-time busy. Also, I tend to burn myself out easily, so I’m trying to pace myself.
Goals for Week 2
Next week, I want to:
Finish the CSS and Flexbox sections
Complete the second project
Will I be back and update next week? Let’s see how it goes 👀
