ENG vs IND 2025: Top Run Scorers and Leading Wicket Takers After 1st Test at Headingley, Leeds

England currently lead the five-match Test series against India 1-0, having won the opening game. The first Test between the Indian and English cricket teams concluded on Tuesday, June 24, at Headingley, Leeds. England successfully chased a challenging target of 371 runs in the fourth innings, thanks to a brilliant century by Ben Duckett (149) and solid half-centuries from Zak Crawley (65) and Joe Root (53).
On day one, England’s captain Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl first. India responded with a spectacular batting performance in their first innings, posting a total of 471 all out. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a memorable century (101) on his debut Test in England.
Headingley: Following Jaiswal’s effort, Shubman Gill (147) and Rishabh Pant (134) added impressive centuries. For England, Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue both claimed four wickets each. England fought back with the bat, scoring 465 runs all out.
Ollie Pope (106) and Harry Brook (99) played excellent innings, aided by multiple dropped catches from the Indian fielders. Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul helped India finish the first innings with a narrow six-run lead. Prasidh Krishna took three wickets, while Mohammed Siraj added two more.
In the second innings, Rishabh Pant continued his stellar form, scoring another century (118), making him the first Indian batsman to score twin hundreds in a Test match in England. KL Rahul contributed a strong 137 as India posted 364 all out, setting England a target of 371 runs.
With this win at Headingley, England take a 1-0 lead in the series.
The next Test will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, starting on July 2.
