‘I wish it would have happened’- Why did Shubman Gill say this after losing the Leeds Test match

Shubman Gill scored a century in the first innings of the Leeds Test match.
The Indian team under the captaincy of Shubman Gill started the England tour with a defeat. England won the first match of the five-Test series played in Leeds by five wickets. The host team achieved the target of 371 runs on the fifth day on Tuesday.
This was Gill’s first match as Test captain. After the defeat, Gill expressed his disappointment. He regrets two things the most. Apart from this, he said that the failure of the lower order batsmen to score runs was a major reason for the defeat.
Gill said after the match, “It was a great Test match. We had chances but we dropped catches and the lower order also did not score runs. But I am proud of the team and overall it was a good effort. Yesterday (Monday) we were thinking of declaring the innings after scoring around 430 runs but it became difficult due to the lack of runs in the lower order.”
He said, “We talked about the contribution of the lower order but it happened so quickly (fall of wickets). We have to improve it in the coming matches.” Defending the fielders for the dropped catch, he said, “Opportunities are not easily available on such wickets. This is a young team and is learning. Hopefully there will be better performance in these aspects in the future.” India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not play in all five Test matches on the England tour. He will be given rest due to workload management. Which matches will Bumrah play? At present, Gill did not say anything clearly about this. When asked about Bumrah’s availability, the captain said, “We will see match by match. A decision will be taken when the second Test comes closer.” The second Test of the series will be held in Birmingham from July 2.
