She was still participating in amateur rugby for her local side, Biggar. She had only earned four international appearances by that stage. Nearly three years on, she has firmly claimed the Scotland number 13 shirt. She now possesses 29 caps and has dotted down for seven tries while playing for her nation.
Indeed, calling the Bristol Bear one of the first selections on the Scottish teamsheet wouldn’t be an exaggeration. The 22-year-old routinely amazes observers and analysts with her skill to glide into space on attack. She also remains dependable in defensive duties. Looking back at media from New Zealand in 2022, Orr says she hardly recognises herself and notes the extensive path.
She’s travelled since. She was extremely young, and a great deal unfolded in such a condensed period. That same year, she debuted for Scotland against Wales at age 18. Then, she played at the Commonwealth Games in sevens. Next, she jetted off to New Zealand, trying to absorb everything happening.

Recently, she’s incorporated some kicking into her arsenal. That’s something she never imagined doing during the previous World Cup.On the other hand, she is aiming to become more assertive in that vital defensive gap. She works to read plays better and stop opposition advances consistently. There's always fresh learning to be done.
But she feels mentally and physically strong both on and away from the field right now. A major reason Orr feels so positive is due to the two rugby teams she is presently part of. She is now in the fourth week of Scotland’s pre-World Cup preparation, taking place in Edinburgh. At the same time, she signed on for another season with Bristol in the PWR league.
She mentioned that the Scotland setting has been excellent. From day one, everyone embraced her warmly. She truly enjoys spending time with the squad. As for the Bristol transfer, that has turned out well since her relocation last summer. Initially, she was hesitant since she’s naturally someone who cherishes home life. It was a significant transition.

She loves that region too. It's mostly rural and filled with farms, which suits her upbringing. Scotland’s most capped player ever—regardless of gender—Donna Kennedy, also came through Biggar’s system. That pipeline is still very much alive thanks to players like Orr. National team colleague Rachel Philipps, and under-20 members like Poppy Mellanby, Emily Coubrough.

The time since has flown due to how busy she’s been. She embraces that busyness. It energises her and makes her optimistic about what this Scottish side can achieve at the upcoming tournament. Their opening fixture at the 2025 World Cup will be versus long-standing foes Wales on Saturday 23rd August.
If she hadn’t pursued a life in rugby, it might have changed her family history. Perhaps even altered the population of Biggar more than expected. Both her parents played rugby in their youth, as revealed by the 21-year-old Scottish and Bristol Bears centre. She also has three older siblings who’ve all been part of the sport. She watched them compete for the Biggar Rugby Club.

That’s how she ended up in the game. Rugby at Biggar has certainly been a family tradition. Her sister is still involved with the club. One of her brothers has retired, while another competes for Ayr. They’ve passed the rugby gene down. Orr, who first represented Scotland at 17 during the 2021 Rugby World Cup, now gets another shot at leaving a greater impact in 2025.
The English edition begins this August. She hopes her efforts reflect the faith others have placed in her along the way. She believes her progress is a tribute to all the investment made by her loved ones and her club. That would be a fitting reward. As she prepares to take the field once again on the world stage, Orr carries not just her ambitions, but the hopes of a nation.
