Why I Started ImposterSyndrome

Have you ever had those students in class who just ALWAYS seemed like they knew everything? Like you’re sitting there staring at the board, attempting to grasp any little bit of information while the kid next to you gets it in the blink of an eye.

Well, if you haven’t, I know I have. It’s why I am creating this blog, ImposterSyndrome. A blog written by the kid who often zones out a bit too much in class, but is committed to achieving his dreams. One day, maybe I’ll look back at this and realize how much I’ve grown. Maybe one day soon, I will be the kid who gets it in the blink of an eye.

The purpose of this blog is for me to share my experiences and the steps I take to grow in what I love. I want to look back and be fascinated by my growth. I need to take the next step forward, and this will help me achieve that.

This blog is for anyone who feels a bit lost; here we will be able to find our way together. Hopefully…

Soooo… who am I?

My name is Pedro Lorenzetti, and I am a third-year Computer Science student currently studying at Rutgers University.

I have always been a bit of a nerd for computers, always wanting to know more and grasp as much information as I can. I began programming when I was twelve years old, with a broken-down laptop with no internet. I remember the first programs I wrote with the Windows Command Prompt. I created a basic program that would run a bunch of digits on the screen, appearing like something straight out of the Matrix movie.

After that day, I became fascinated by programming. I instantly began learning HTML and CSS and dove straight into creating my first website.

For loops were a nightmare to me at the time. I remember scratching my head for hours at night, attempting to understand what, how, and why a for loop worked.

Now I am here.

My love for CS never died; it simply waned for a bit. I have, and will always continue, pushing forward in this journey, and eventually, I know I’ll make it to my end goal.

What I will focus on

As of right now, I have a few topic ideas in mind.

  • Explaining X to a 10-year-old - Demystifying Topics

  • Debugging My Brain thoughts on confidence, motivation, burnout

  • Weekly Logs from a Student-Dev – the raw journey

  • Project Diaries – A place where I will share my project stories

  • Weekly SICP Episode - Very relevant information

Sooo… what’s next?

Hopefully a lot.

I plan on making weekly posts in this blog. This is kinda like a summer project in a way, something for me to keep track of my progress.

Next, I will go study something, be it the AI course I bought or go read some SICP and dive into the wonders of low-level CS.

I plan to make at least two uploads a week, be it in any of the topics listed above.

Once again, I am no expert. Nowhere near it, actually. I will make mistakes, and probably lots of them too, but I am here to learn and I am here to simply do what I love to do.

Thank you for taking the time to read. It means a lot. If you feel like I do, maybe you should also begin documenting your journey through what you love.

And to my future self, I hope you look back on these first posts and are proud of how far you have come, even if it has nothing to do with this blog.

Thanks for reading — I’m figuring it out as I go. See you in the next post.
