Rishabh Pant scored a century in both innings of the Leeds Test match.

Australia’s legendary batsman and former India coach Greg Chappell praised Rishabh Pant for scoring centuries in both innings against England in the Leeds Test. Pant scored 134 runs (178 balls, 12 fours, 6 sixes) in the first innings and 118 runs (140 balls, 15 fours, 3 sixes) in the second innings, and also made many records in his name. However, India lost the match by 5 wickets. Chappell said that Pant is reshaping cricket as a batsman.

Pant’s unique style and comparison with Gilchrist

Rishabh

Chappell said in a promotional event, “When I first saw Pant, he reminded me of Adam Gilchrist, but he is a different kind of player. As a wicketkeeper, batting at this level and scoring runs quickly can prove to be a game changer for the team.” He said that Pant’s fast run rate gives the team enough time to win the match. “Some of his shots are not even in the MCC rules. He is giving a new dimension to the game.”

Pant’s unpredictable batting

Chappell praised Pant’s unpredictable style and said, “You can never know what Pant will do from the first ball. He can play with ramp shots or aggressive steps against fast bowlers. His uncertainty always keeps the opposition team alert. He is a match winner and in the Leeds Test, he almost turned the tables.” Chappell said that modern bats and technology have made shots like Pant’s possible, which were impossible in the earlier era.

Shubman Gill’s captaincy got off to a great start

Chappell also praised Indian captain Shubman Gill, even though India lost the first Test. He said, “It was a great Test, although the result was not in India’s favor. Gill made a great start as captain and batsman. The conditions on the last day were better than other days. Gill and the Indian think tank would have learned a lot. If the catches were not dropped and the lower order played better, the result could have been different. Gill will be even better in the future.
